Batman: Arkham Knight Devs Talk About Batman's Suit, Predator Challenges, and More

Written By Kom Limpulnam on Minggu, 30 November 2014 | 21.50

Batman: Arkham Knight developer Rocksteady held a Reddit Ask Me Anything yesterday where they answered some questions about the upcoming game as well as their previous entries in the series.

Reddit user dart278 asked why Batman's suit looks more robotic than it did in previous games.

RockSteady: "We wanted to highlight the interaction between Batman and the Batmobile - you'll see that the suit mirrors the design of the car in a lot of ways. The new suit impacts gameplay as well, as it enhances some of Batman's abilities, particularly in the way the Batman and the car work together."

ANBU_Spectre asked if Rocksteady added new combat moves and animations we didn't see in the previous games.

Rocksteady: "Zafer Coban and the rest of the animation team have been doing some amazing work on making combat look and feel awesome. For example, there's a scene toward the end of the Ace Chemicals Infiltration Part 1 Trailer where Batman faces off against two combat experts. Everything in that shot is taken straight from the game - we just shifted the camera to get a slightly more cinematic angle."

DanishxAssassin asked what's what's Rocksteady's favorite new addition to the game outside the batmobile.

Rocksteady: "It has to be the open city - now that we've got all of Gotham to explore it's a great experience. The City design team here has done an amazing job building an environment that's huge and intricately detailed. The detail in Arkham games was always my favourite thing about playing them before I joined Rocksteady, and it's awesome that the guys have managed to keep that level of care on something so much bigger."

Chilldude205 asked what changes Rocksteady made the game's Predator Challenges.

Rocksteady: "I think my favourite tweak to predator has to be size of some of the encounters. You're going to be taking on large, varied groups of armed guards. You'll need to be a serious predator expert if you want to complete those sections without alerts."

SPOILER ALERT for Batman: Arkham City ahead.

FogKnight22 asked if was harder to write the story for Arkham Knight given the events of Arkham City.

RockSteady: "I think it's quite the opposite! Sefton has said that when they started work on Batman: Arkham City, they had the vision of the final scene Joker's death almost from the start, and looked at the story from the perspective of the events that would lead to that point.

"With Batman: Arkham Knight, that ending is the point that we jump off from, asking 'what happens when Joker is removed from Gotham' and looking at the fallout from those events."

Finally, Rocksteady said it will release a new trailer for the game on Monday, 9 a.m. PST.

Arkham Knight launches in June 2015 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. The game was originally targeted to launch this fall, but developer Rocksteady pushed it back to add more polish.

Why Warlords of Draenor Got Me Back into World of Warcraft

The only world of warcraft game that I REALLY played was the wrath of lich king. I loved the warcraft III and its expansion pack's campaigns, so the wrath of lich king's story made the game interesting to me. All the other games after that seemed a bit too randomized. I haven't played after lich king, so I maybe not the right person to start judging how WOW was, but it didn't captivate me to even start trying. (I was a heavy gamer back in the wrath of lich king days)

I rather played skyrim and fallout on my spare time.

This time, it kind of gets my attention, but I want to stay cautious and see the actual review first. I personally want to relate the warcraft III campaigns to WOW. The races' struggle to survive. The mysterious hidden powers that people sought. The emotional stories that made me feel personally attached. What WOW had more than that was it's grandness of exploration to see the WORLD of warcraft. It showed what it's like to live as a member of the warcraft universe.

ALL these combinations were great, but too many updates that made lots of short cuts made players less focus on the story, but rather seek for the best items. That is how I became addicted to the game and eventually quit it, because I could not afford myself to be constantly logged in to keep raiding with my guild members. Warcraft was never about the graphics, never about fancy combat systems. Though, it was about having every little system contain a meaning to it.

Warcraft lost its meaning to it, and wish it can bring it back to where it was.

Counter-Strike eSports Team Forfeits Victory After Using Map Exploit

Pro Counter-Strike: Global Offensive team Fnatic has forfeited a rematch against team LDLC after using a map exploit during the $250,000 DreamHack Winter eSports event.

Fnatic won the match yesterday by boosting one of its players to a ledge that gave him a view and sniping position on almost the entire Overpass map. You can see how players jump on top of one another to reach the spot in the video above posted to YouTube by user David Kallberg. The Fnatic player was essentially standing on an invisible ledge he shouldn't have been able to reach. While DreamHack's rules don't explicitly forbid this, it does count as "pixel-walking," which was forbidden at DreamHack Summer Summer 2013, according to HLTV.org.

LDLC filed protest, and after taking it into consideration, DreamHack administrators said that the teams will have to replay the match. However, Fnatic has since announced that it's forfeiting the match.

"With tremendous respect towards the CS:GO community and other teams we have decided to withdraw from the tournament," the team said on its Facebook page.

You can watch the rest of DreamHack Winter's Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournament here.

New RTS From Command & Conquer Creators Grey Goo Gets a Release Date

Real-time strategy game Grey Goo will release on PC via Steam on January 23, 2015, developer Petroglyph has announced.

Petroglyph originally planned to follow its Alpha testing with a Closed Alpha and more comprehensive Beta Testing, but it said that the information it already gathered on balance and stability was enough to come up with a road map that would take it all the way to launch.

"We know that many of you were hoping to be involved in a more full-blown Beta Testing phase," it said. "However, instead, we have been focused on using the data we received to improve the game so that we can get Grey Goo into your hands and onto your computer as soon as possible."

"We have a rich, lengthy background as RTS developers, dating all the way back to our time on the original Command & Conquer at Westwood Studios," Executive Producer at Petroglyph Ted Morris said back when the game was first announced. "We want to bring back some of what made those 'traditional' RTS games great while addressing all the lessons we've learned along the way."

Petroglyph said it will release more information about the game in the months leading to launch, starting with developer diary above.

Does Blizzard's Shooter Overwatch Live Up to the Hype?

Hype? Its the first time I hear someone even mentioning this game. Hell its been only 5min when I learned about this game. Though game looks fun, kinda TF2, as they mentioned. Though I don't feel buying that kind of games anymore, where its just online shooting and nothing else. What for lot of people is enough, what is good, but I don't know if for me is. I bought TF2 back at the days when i come out, it seemed fine back then, but would I buy it now? I don't think so, especcialy when lot of that kind of games are free now days. Maybe not as good in quality but still. It looks kinda like Archeblade or whatever too, of course better, and not some pay 2 win crap. Even though I don't really like Blizzard, but I know they make good quality games. I guess I'll see. It looks good, I like characters, though as I understand there's no simple deathmatch? Just some kind of defending and stuff. Unless with time they will add more modes.

How Titan Died, and How Overwatch Was Born - Chris Metzen

@amar1234 I don't really feel like Blizzard needs a new MMO.  I mean, look at what they have.  Warcraft has metamorphosed into an MMO, StarCraft is an RTS, Heroes of the Storm is a MOBA, Diablo is an action RPG, Hearthstone is a card game, and now Overwatch is a shooter.  Every game Blizzard does is distinct, and avoids competing with any of their own products.  Heck, revive a few of their older games, and you could add 2d action sidescroller, top down racing, and puzzle games to their repertoire as well.  Literally everything they do is distinct, and frankly, of very high quality.

So when you get right down to it, just what is Blizzard's incentive to create a different MMO anyway?  For that matter, is there any reason for them to make Warcraft 4 so long as WoW exists?  My point in drawing all this out is just that Blizzard does have a wide variety of properties, and has done well with pretty much all of them.  As such, they don't really have any incentive to double up in any particular genre.  WoW might have been a huge success, but that doesn't make them an MMO company.  That would be selling their talents far too short.

The Connection Between Overwatch and Blizzard's Cancelled Project Titan

Overwatch was the surprise, team-based shooter announced at this year's Blizzcon. But coming so soon on the heels of official word that the rumored MMO project Titan was cancelled, it's only natural to assume that some portions of that game live on within Blizzard's new title.

Earlier today, during the game's reveal, Blizzard senior vice president of story and franchise development Chris Metzen had said that Overwatch shares a "spiritual continuity," but that they are "pretty different." He also described Titan as "kooky and ambitious."

During a press conference for Overwatch later that same day, Metzen elaborated on those comments further. After answering a question about the connection between Titan and Overwatch, Metzen replied, "I'm not going to get into what [Titan] was going to be or what we wanted it to be. I can tell you what it was, in a way, it was frustrating. It was a big, giant idea; it was almost like six video games in one. It was the most ambitious game ever. It was fun to try to tackle it, and boy did we tackle it. We wrestled with it for a long time. And it sucked; we couldn't figure it out. It makes you just [clenches his fist], we couldn't crack it.

"Imagine this amazing team just frustrated. 'Why can't we do this?' It's trying to fret a chord and write the song. 'We can't write the song, why can't it just sound awesome?' Can't find the harmony, whatever. And when we decided to go another way, like Jeff was saying, we've got this hook, 'Why aren't we doing that? We love that.' And we decided to do it and, suddenly, 'Boom!' The music just exploded. And we started looking at [Overwatch] for what it was, and it unleashed this tidal wave of passion and certainty and distilled, clear ideas. And this world idea. It was just this monstrous thing of energy.

"It's been the funnest year, getting our feet back under us, getting our surety back. That magnetic north thing, we found it again, and it feels good. It was part of that emotionality on the stage this morning. To some degree, we needed to get it back, and we found it. And I hope the people look at Overwatch as a very clever game. But I'll tell you, under the hood, we needed this, just as developers to feel that lightning coursing through it again."

Whatever Titan was, it's clear that Overwatch took any potential, remnant ideas from that project in a new direction. And from what we've played so far Blizzard may be on to something with their first foray into the shooter genre. We took a deeper dive into the gameplay and offered up our initial impressions earlier today.

What do you think of Overwatch so far? Is this the kind of project you were hoping/expecting to see from Blizzard? Let us know in the comments.

BioWare Holding Special Mass Effect Livestream Today

Written By Kom Limpulnam on Jumat, 07 November 2014 | 21.50

Interested in learning about where BioWare's Mass Effect franchise may be headed in the future? Today could be your lucky day, as the developer will hold a special livestream event starting at 10 AM Pacific / 1 PM Eastern / 6 PM UK where the developer is expected to talk about all things Mass Effect.

Today, after all, is November 7--or N7 Day. Last year on this date, BioWare released the first images of the upcoming Mass Effect game to mark the occasion. Who knows what will be in store this year. BioWare is only saying that the event will take the form of a developer roundtable.

We will update this post with the Twitch livestream shortly before it begins.

One thing that BioWare probably won't talk about during the event is the rumored Mass Effect Trilogy remake for current-generation consoles. BioWare Edmonton and Montreal general manager Aaryn Flynn poured cold water on that idea recently.

What we do know about the next Mass Effect game is that it leaves the story of Commander Shepard and the first three games behind. BioWare began teasing images from the new game in November 2013, and shortly thereafter we learned it is already playable. Overall, the next Mass Effect game is described as "fresh but recognizable."

We also know that producer Casey Hudson, who worked on the first three Mass Effect titles, won't have a hand in the fourth. He recently quit BioWare and is potentially working on a virtual reality project. Though he's no longer working at BioWare, Hudson has high hopes for the new Mass Effect game, saying in August that he thinks it will "redefine interactive entertainment."

Play Battlefield 4 Free On PC Right Now

DICE's 2013 shooter Battlefield 4 has returned to EA's "Game Time" promotion on Origin, meaning PC users can now play the game for free. EA is offering up seven days of free play, though that clock begins when you launch the game and continues when you're sleeping and eating.

But don't worry, the time needed to download and install Battlefield 4 is not counted towards the 168 hours of free time. Once you get the game running, the clock will begin, and you'll be notified in-game with how much time you have left.

Gamers who decide to buy Battlefield 4 when the Game Time ends won't have to worry about starting over, as all of your progress will carry over. You can add Battlefield 4 to your Origin game library here.

Battlefield 4 is not the only game available now through Game Time, though its duration of 168 hours is by far the longest. Others include Respawn Entertainment's shooter Titanfall (48 hours) and role-playing game Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning (48 hours).

While it's not completely free, Xbox One owners with an EA Access membership ($5/month or $30/year) can currently play Battlefield 4 all they want without paying anything extra.

Watch This Halo: Master Chief Collection TV Spot Set To Queen's "We Will Rock You"

With Microsoft's highly anticipated Xbox One game Halo: The Master Chief Collection now just days away, the company is ramping up marketing efforts for the title. One such campaign is a new TV spot featuring Queen's "We Will Rock You" that will air this weekend during various NFL broadcasts.

The commercial rather ingeniously syncs up Halo weapon sounds with the track's iconic, thumping intro for a dramatic effect. It also ends by reminding everyone that you can now buy an Xbox One starting at $350, the lowest official pricing since the system launched a year ago this month.

The Master Chief Collection launches on November 11 exclusively for Xbox One. In addition to remastered versions of Halo 1-4 and multiplayer support for every game, the package includes access to Ridley Scott's Halo: Nightfall, as well as a beta key for December's Halo 5: Guardians beta.

We recently learned that the game's hefty day-one update has been reduced in size from 20 GB to 15 GB. For more on The Master Chief Collection, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

Bungie Gifts Unique Destiny Gun to Brain Surgery Patient

Developer Bungie has gifted a unique Destiny weapon to a brain surgery patient following doctor's advice that playing the first-person shooter could help him recover.

The story comes from Reddit user Bkbunny87, who explained in great detail about her husband Eric's health status and how Bungie was able to step in and warm their hearts.

In the last year, Eric had seven brain surgeries, three of which involved removing parts of his brain, resulting in memory loss. Though his condition was stable, Eric wanted to play Destiny when it was released in September, close to when he needed to have another surgery operation.

Eric's exclusive Fate Of All Fools scout rifle

"He wanted it badly enough that two weeks ago he described the game in detail to his wonderful Neurologist," his wife explained. To her surprise, the doctor said video games can work as an excellent physical therapy tool for people suffering from brain and memory damage.

"I have been shocked how well he has taken to it," she wrote about her husband's Destiny habits. "Once an avid cook, he was no longer able to navigate our kitchen--but with Destiny, it was like a duck to water. He has always been exceptionally good at games, and it seems like that hadn't changed a bit. It's been a joy to watch him."

She goes on to say that Destiny's effect on Eric's health and outlook has been dramatic. "He has been going out more, doing chores, making jokes," she says. "The effect of playing the game on his mood has been almost staggering."

It wasn't all great, however, as she reports that Eric has trouble communicating with friends in Destiny's raid missions. This led to his fireteam getting frustrated with him, she says.

This story has found its way to Bungie, as community manager David "Deej" Dague reached out to Eric and sent him a care package, presumably stuffed with all manner of Destiny goodies. In addition, Bungie sent Eric an in-game weapon, the super-rare Fate Of All Fools scout rifle (above). Eric is the only gamer out there with this weapon, as it apparently won't be released publicly until a future update.

Square Enix Profits More Than Double Year-Over-Year

Written By Kom Limpulnam on Kamis, 06 November 2014 | 21.50

Tomb Raider and Final Fantasy publisher Square Enix today announced financial results for the six-month period ended September 30, and they were strong. Overall, the Japanese publisher posted revenue of ¥73.1 billion ($637.6 million), compared to ¥61.6 billion ($537.5 million) last year. Meanwhile, profit more than doubled, rising from ¥2.6 billion ($22.7 million) last year to ¥5.7 billion ($49.7 million) this year.

Square Enix said its games for smartphones and PC, such as Dragon Quest Monsters Super Light, Schoolgirls Strikers, and Sengoku IXA "continued to post favorable results." Meanwhile, console game sales increased year-over-year, and back catalog sales were particularly "strong" in the Western market, Square Enix said. On top of those, the publisher said its MMO Final Fantasy XIV and Dragon Quest X have been making "favorable progress."

Square Enix is not just a video game company, as the publisher also operates Amusement, Publication, and Merchandising divisions. However, the company's game unit--called Digital Entertainment--was the breadwinner of the bunch, posting more revenue and profit than the other three units combined.

For the period ended September 30, net sales in Square Enix's game division totaled ¥43.7 billion ($381.4 million), an increase of 42.8 percent. Operating income was ¥7.9 billion ($68.9 million), up from ¥3.4 billion ($29.7 million) last year.

Looking ahead, Square Enix has boosted its earnings projections for the fiscal year ending March 2015. The company now expects to haul between ¥150 billion-¥160 billion ($1.3 billion-$1.4 billion), up from the previous forecast of ¥140 billion-¥150 billion ($1.2 billion-$1.3 billion). Square Enix has also revised its profit projection, now expecting to make between ¥7 billion-¥10.5 billion ($61 million-$91 million) for the year, compared to its previous estimation of between ¥3.5-¥6.5 billion ($30.5 million-$56.7 million).

Halo: The Master Chief Collection Day-One Update Reduced to 15 GB

Microsoft has reduced the size of Halo: The Master Chief Collection's massive 20 GB day-one title update down to 15 GB, according to a report today from Eurogamer, which verified the size.

Even better news is that the update is now available to download now if you've preordered a digital copy of the game, according to 343 Industries producer Dan Ayoub.

The gargantuan day-one update for The Master Chief Collection was confirmed in October. You won't need to install the update to play the campaigns for Halo 1-4, though it will be required to take advantage of all matchmaking features.

Addressing the sheer size of the day-one update, Halo boss Frank O'Connor said previously that shipping on two discs "would completely wreck the functionality and experience of the unified interface." He also said at the time that he understands some people will be frustrated. "For some folks it will be straight up annoying and I both apologize unreservedly for the irritance, and hope that the package and the way it works more than makes up for it," he said.

Guy Plays Far Cry 4 in Himalayas At Elevation Of 18,569 Feet

Far Cry 4 has set a new world record, but it's not for a marathon session or related to any in-game feat. Ubisoft announced today that contest winner Will Cruz played the open-world game in the Himalayan mountain range recently, at an elevation of 18,569 feet above sea level--that's more than three miles high. The publisher says this sets a Guinness World Record for "Highest Altitude Video Game Console Session."

Cruz, a 23-year-old from Provo, Utah, was chosen to fly to Nepal and participate in the expedition as part of the nationwide contest that was announced during San Diego Comic-Con in July. According to Ubisoft, Cruz--a "hiking enthusiast"--had never traveled outside of the United States before his trip to Nepal--he also visited Kathmandu, Khumjung Monastery, and the Khumbu Glacier as part of it.

For the Far Cry 4 competition, Cruz traveled to Mt. Everest Base Camp and hiked to the summit of Kala Patthar, one of the mountains in the same range as Everest. He hiked to the peak with a team of 15 people, including sherpas, a video crew, and a caravan of yaks that were responsible for carrying the TV, generator, and gaming equipment needed to play Far Cry 4.

Cruz reached the peak of Kala Patthar on October 11, and played Far Cry 4 on PlayStation 4 for 79 minutes. During his playtime, he faced wind gusts of up to 25mph, temperatures that reached as low as 17 degrees Fahrenheit, and of course the reduced oxygen levels of such a height.

Check out some images of Cruz's world record attempt in the gallery below.

Nintendo Teases Animal Crossing Amiibo and "NFC Cards"

Although Nintendo's first wave of Amiibo toys have yet to hit retail, Nintendo is already teasing that future forms of the NFC-powered toys could extend beyond Mario, Peach, and Zelda figures.

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata explained during a recent Q&A session with analysts that not only is the company planning to make more games compatible with Amiibo, but that the Japanese firm has a bolder vision for how the GamePad's NFC functionality could work someday.

"We are thinking about making many more games compatible with Amiibo from next year," Iwata said during the presentation. "We do not think Amiibo always needs to take the form of a figure, either. We believe that Amiibo could take a variety of different forms."

Iwata revealed that Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto is already working on "multiple ways" to use the GamePad and the NFC functionality "more aggressively." It could be as early as next year that we get to see what Miyamoto has been cooking up, Iwata teased.

"We do not think Amiibo always needs to take the form of a figure" -- Satoru Iwata

"Some of our products in 2015 might be a result of this new focus," he said.

Miyamoto also spoke during the presentation, saying that Nintendo's goal for the Amiibo toy line--and whatever comes next--is to make gamers feel a "sense of wonder." He explained that in order to differentiate the Wii U and 3DS from the Xbox One or PlayStation 4, Nintendo needs to make the gaming experience feel like the user is playing with a new toy.

He also revealed that the Amiibo product range will eventually include cards.

"For example, when Amiibo become cards, we can create a game which can be played only by passing several cards over the NFC reader/writer, and the results will be stored in the Amiibo card," he said. "I cannot discuss any of the details today, but Amiibo has the potential to propose new ways to play card games."

Some of Nintendo's other future Amiibo plans, Miyamoto said, involve launching "smaller and even more affordable" figures so that the toy line can appeal to a wide variety of users. He said he's even thinking about how Amiibo can be used for Animal Crossing games in the future.

"Wii U has so many attractive features, and we have not been able to communicate all of its charms yet" -- Shigeru Miyamoto

Meanwhile, Miyamoto admitted that Nintendo focused too much on the dual-screen nature of the Wii U (i.e. the GamePad/TV functionality), instead of showing gamers the unique capabilities that the GamePad's built-in NFC could provide.

"Wii U has so many attractive features, and we have not been able to communicate all of its charms yet," he said. "We are still making efforts to demonstrate the potential of Wii U even today, we have to admit that we might have focused too much on the unique uses of the two screens. We should have put more effort into using the NFC functionality much earlier, but we are now moving forward with projects that make use of NFC in a variety of unique ways."

The first game to support Amiibo toys is Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, which launches on November 21. Mario, Link, Samus, Fox, Donkey Kong, and Pikachu are among the figures featured in the first wave of figures, though more are coming in December.

Amiibo toys will only work on Wii U right away, though Nintendo plans to release an adapter for 3DS later. In addition, the New 3DS--available only in Japan right now--features built-in NFC functionality.

Xbox One Stereo Headset Drops To $50

Microsoft's official Xbox One stereo headset can now be had for $50 on Amazon, a markdown of $10 from what the headset is selling for in Microsoft's own store right now.

If you're in the market for something flashier, the special-edition Armed Forces version of the Xbox One stereo headset sells for $60 on Amazon and $70 through Microsoft's site.

The Xbox One stereo headset originally sold for $80 (and $90 for the Armed Forces version), though Microsoft has since cut the price.

The headset features an over-the-ear design, including breathable fabric ear cups. It also sports a boom microphone that can fold up when you're not using it. The Xbox One stereo headset is also fairly light, weighing just 9 ounces.

New Forza Horizon 2 Out Today, Includes Six Cars for $5

Written By Kom Limpulnam on Selasa, 04 November 2014 | 21.50

Microsoft announced today that new Forza Horizon 2 content is now available on Xbox One in the form of the Falken Car Pack. You can buy the add-on, which introduces five new cars (listed below) to the recently released racing game, today for $5 through Xbox Live.

People who don't pay are getting a bonus, too, as Microsoft also today released the 1990 Subaru Legacy RS for all players. Xbox 360 players aren't getting any of the new content, as all Forza Horizon 2 DLC will be released only on Xbox One, Microsoft clarified last month.

It is unclear if the Falken Car Pack is included with the $25 Forza Horizon 2 Car Pass. GameSpot has followed up with Microsoft for clarification.

The Falken Car Pack includes:

  • 2014 Alfa Romeo 4C
  • 2014 BMW M4 Coupe
  • 2014 Chevrolet SS
  • 1988 Lamborghini Jalpa
  • 1969 Toyota 2000GT
  • 1990 Subaru Legacy RS (for all players)

For a closer look at the six cars included with Forza Horizon 2's Falken Car Pack, check out the video above and the image gallery below.

PS4 + GTA 5 + The Last Of Us = $400 at Dell On Black Friday

According to a leaked adscan for Dell's Black Friday sales promotion, you'll be able to get a new PlayStation 4 and copies of Grand Theft Auto V and The Last of Us Remastered for $400.

The adscan comes by way of Black Friday deals site Bfads.net. Dell has yet to officially announce its Black Friday deals, so you should take this with a grain of salt for now.

The PS4 deal is Dell's "doorbuster" sale, and will supposedly begin on Thursday, November 27 (that's Thanksgiving Day) at 6 PM Eastern. The deal is available online only.

According to the ad, Dell only has a "limited" number of the PS4 bundles in stock at this price, so if you want one, you'll probably need to to log on to Dell's website exactly at 6 PM to have a shot.

In addition, Dell will reportedly offer the Xbox One Assassin's Creed Unity bundle (which also comes with Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, but not Kinect) for $330.

Black Friday is the unofficial start to the holiday shopping season. Though Dell is one of the first out of the gate, we're expecting many more adscans to start showing up for other big-name retailers. GameSpot will have more deals coverage for you in the lead-up to Black Friday later this month.

Watch Conan O'Brien "Review" Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare

THIS POST CONTAINS SPOILERS ABOUT CALL OF DUTY: ADVANCED WARFARE.

We've already told you what we think about Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, but what about comedian Conan O'Brien? If you were waiting for O'Brien's opinion, now you're in luck, as he has posted his "review" of Sledgehammer Games' just-released shooter as part of his "Clueless Gamer" segment.

Check out the video above to see O'Brien play a few minutes of Advanced Warfare and make all manner of jokes about the game. O'Brien makes fun of the game's funeral scene ("hold X to pay respects") and the way in which you perform a double jump--"I'd like to double tap that A," he says.

O'Brien also jabs at the virtual version of Kevin Spacey depicted in the game, saying his character's eyes are not rendered very believably.

According to a previous report, some publishers pay to have their games appear on O'Brien's Clueless Gamer segment, though it is unclear if this was the case with Advanced Warfare.

Advanced Warfare was released on Monday through the Day Zero edition and is available everywhere today. For more on the game, check out GameSpot's review and what other critics are saying.

Lord of the Rings Actor Andy Serkis Playing Villain in Stealth Game, Volume

Written By Kom Limpulnam on Senin, 03 November 2014 | 21.50

Guy Gisborne

Lord of the Rings actor Andy Serkis will play a lead role in upcoming stealth game Volume, from Thomas Was Alone creator Mike Bithell. The Gollum actor will voice a villain named Guy Gisborne.

You might be wondering how Bithell was able to attract Serkis to the project. After all, Serkis--who will appear in next year's Star Wars: Episode VII--is a top talent in Hollywood. According to Bithell, Serkis was his "dream" actor for the role, and, after some initial struggles, Bithell was able to snag him for the game with help from British casting studio Side.

"We'd been looking for an actor to play Gisborne for a while, and even come close to casting it with different folks," Bithell told Gamasutra. "After one of those attempts fell through, it was a back to the drawing board moment, and I decided to stop compromising, and go for my dream actor for the role-- who I'd get if practicality and reality weren't an issue."

"Thank god [Serkis] said yes, and had some time clear in his busy schedule," Bithell added.

This is not Serkis' first video game appearance. He played Gollum in the Lord of the Rings licensed games, and had parts in Enslaved: Odyssey to the West and Heavenly Sword."

Volume launches in 2015 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and PC.

Some Xbox One Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Copies Facing Download Issues

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare's release today (through the Day Zero edition) did not go entirely smoothly. Some users are reporting problems downloading their pre-ordered copies of the game. This issue has been fixed for most people, but if you are still encountering trouble, Microsoft advises that you delete the game and redownload it. Not ideal, for sure, but it's at least a fix.

"We've received reports that some users are having issues getting their preordered copy of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare," Microsoft said on its Xbox Live support page today. "We're happy to say that our team has fixed the problem, but if you are still experiencing any issues, delete the game and redownload it. Thanks for your patience while we got this issue worked out. Have fun!"

You can download Advanced Warfare today on Xbox One (even if you didn't preorder) through the Day Zero edition. If you buy the game today, you'll even get double XP all day long. The game officially launches tomorrow, November 4, for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC.

PS4 Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Is 1080p, Xbox One Version Lower

The Xbox One version of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare runs at a minimum native resolution of 1360x1080, while the PlayStation 4 iteration of the first-person shooter runs natively in 1080p.

Asked about the game's resolution during a recent Ask Me Anything session on Reddit, developer Sledgehammer Games co-founder Michael Condrey revealed the resolution details.

"Minimum Xbox One resolution is 1360x1080, and dynamically scales from there to full 1080p," Condrey said. "That's over 50% increase from last year. Advanced Warfare runs native 1080p on PS4."

On the subject of frame rate, Condrey said both the Xbox One and PS4 versions of Advanced Warfare run at 60fps.

You can buy Advanced Warfare today through the Day Zero edition. The game officially launches tomorrow for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC. In our 8.0 review, we praised Advanced Warfare's content-rich multiplayer and its futuristic combat technology, but lamented its inconsistent narrative.

War Game About Innocent Civilians This War of Mine Gets Release Date, New Trailer

Written By Kom Limpulnam on Minggu, 02 November 2014 | 21.50

This War of Mine, an atypical war game that puts players in the role if innocent civilians caught in the crossfire as opposed to empowering them as capable soldiers, will release on PC, Mac, and Linux November 14, developer 11 Bit Studios has announced.

11 Bit Studios also released a new trailer for the game that gives us a good look at its gameplay. As you can see in the video, you play the game on a 2D plane, a group of civilians trying to survive in a city besieged by war. You'll have to scavenge and manage food and medicine while avoiding soldiers and other hostile scavengers.

11 Bit Studios recently announced that it's partnering with War Child, a charity organization that's trying to help people in in a similar situation in the real world. To find out more about War Child head over to the charity's website.

Watch The Making of Space Sim Elite: Dangerous

Frontier Developments, the studio behind Elite: Dangerous, has released a short video about the making of the space sim and its roots in the original Elite released in 1984.

Frontier Developments CEO David Braben explains that one of the biggest challenges in developing the game was getting the feel of the combat right. "It isn't the sort of thing where by having a bigger ship you're immediately going to win. It's all in the details, the turn rates, how heavy should feel, how light," Braben said.

Game Designer Dan Davies added that part of the challenge was building great combat that takes place in an empty space. "Other games can use the environment and gravity to create the gameplay limitations that they need, whereas we had to use the flight model and the ships to essentially create those gameplay limitations," Davies said.

Elite: Dangerous recently rolled out the third stage of its Beta test to players, unlocking even more of the Milky Way for them to explore and introducing a tons of new features like the ability to own multiple ships and mining.

You can jump into the Beta 3 right now by buying the game for $75 through Frontier's online store. The game is scheduled to launch by the end of the year, though Frontier Developments still hasn't settled on an exact date.

Xbox-Produced Atari Documentary Gets a Release Date

Atari: Game Over, the Xbox-Produced documentary about the rise and fall of Atari, will release on Xbox and video.xbox.com on November 20, the movie's director Zak Penn has announced.

The Documentary tells the story of Atari, which went from being the fastest growing company in American history, to the producer of E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial for the Atari 2600, a game that failed so miserably Atari ended up burying thousands of unsold copies of it in a landfill in Alamogordo, New Mexico.

The movie features interviews with the creator of the game, Howard Warshaw, other Atari employees, and various people involved with the dig that unearthed the buried copies of the game back in April.

Atari: Game Over is part the documentary series Signal to Noise produced by Xbox Entertainment Studios, the division responsible for original Xbox programming, which Microsoft announced it's shutting down earlier this week.

Initially, Microsoft said that president Nancy Tellem and executive vice president Jordan Levin will "stay on and remain committed to original programming already in production," but it later confirmed that both executives have been let go.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel DLC Makes Handsome Jack a Playable Character

The first piece of Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, the Handsome Jack Doppelganger Pack, will add Handsome Jack, the villain from Borderlands 2, as a playable character, Gearbox and 2K Australia have announced.

Technically, you're not playing as Handsome Jack himself, but his body double. As "Jack," you'll be able to summon multiple "Digi-Jacks" that will fight for you, and they can get special abilities depending on how you upgrade you skill tree. "Jack" can also shoot enemies with wrist lasers, get buffs every time he picks up money, and get special upgrades for using guns made by specific manufacturers.

Gearbox and 2K Australia say they've been working on DLC for the game since they completed the main game. The other three pieces of DLC included in the Season Pass are still in development, but the plan is to add another playable character, raise the level cap, and add a new campaign.

You can buy the DLC packs separately at $10 a piece, or get the Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel Season Pass, which will get you all the DLC as it's released for $30 total.

The Handsome Jack Doppelganger Pack is coming to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC on November 11.
