Evolve Alpha Hits PS4 and PC Today

Written By Kom Limpulnam on Jumat, 31 Oktober 2014 | 21.51

The "Big Alpha" for 2015's much-anticipated 4v1 shooter Evolve comes to PlayStation 4 and PC today, following its launch yesterday exclusively for Xbox One.

The alpha will be available to download on PS4 and PC today starting at 9 AM PDT / 12 Noon EDT / 4 PM GMT. If you preordered a copy of the game, you're guaranteed a spot. The alpha ends on Sunday, November 2.

2K Games and developer Turtle Rock Studios have also released a new "Kraken Interactive Trailer" for Evolve, which you can see below. It allows you to see a match unfold from five different perspectives.

Evolve was originally targeted to launch this year, but it was recently delayed to February 10, 2015. The game's developer, Turtle Rock, also created the Left 4 Dead series. In Evolve, four players fight together to take down a fifth player, who takes on the role of a monster with unique (and deadly) attributes.

Evolve was originally a THQ game, but when the company went bankrupt, 2K Games parent company Take-Two Interactive bought the game during an auction for $10.9 million. For more on Evolve, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

"Paranormal Platformer" Extreme Exorcism Coming to Xbox One, PS4, and PC in 2015

Indie developer Golden Ruby Games and publisher Ripstone today announced that "paranormal platformer" Extreme Exorcism will be released on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC in 2015. Previously, the game was confirmed only for PC.

The announcement today, on Halloween, is fitting, given the game's subject material. Haven't heard of Extreme Exorcism? It's a platformer where "all of your actions will come back to haunt you..."

You play the role of an "extreme exorcist" named MaeBarrons. Her tactics are somewhat unorthodox ("holy water and a Bible just won't cut it with these ghosts"), so she uses a heavy-powered arsenal of swords, guns, grenades, mines, rocket launchers, and weaponized boomerangs.

She can also use lightning spells and Kung-Fu moves.

The main hook in Extreme Exorcism is that every time you kill a ghost, another appears that copies your every move. "So tread carefully, or prepare to reap what you sow. The longer you survive, the more extreme the game becomes."

Here are the basics about Extreme Exorcism, courtesy of Golden Ruby Games:

  • Story mode covers the ten areas of the haunted mansion culminating in a boss fight
  • Comprehensive local multiplayer: non-stop ghost annihilation for up to 4 players
  • Story mode playable both co-operatively and solo
  • Customizable death match mode--change the weapon set, how ghosts spawn, and the abilities they possess
  • Online leaderboards allow youto compare your scores with the wider world
  • Challenge mode: specific rulesetups that encourage extreme play

For more on Extreme Exorcism, check out the game's website and some images in the gallery below.

Eternal Darkness Spiritual Successor Back in Production

Shadow of the Eternals, the stalled spiritual successor to 2002 GameCube horror game Eternal Darkness, is back in production with big ambitions. Denis Dyack, the former Silicon Knights head, announced this week that the game is in production at a new company he's heading up called Quantum Entanglement Entertainment Inc., also known as QE2.

This company will create games, but also movies and TV shows. According to Dyack, this is where the future of entertainment is heading. He said the combination of games, movies, and TV forms "The Singularity."

"I wanted to do something that was a lot more than just video games" -- Denis Dyack

"Technology has pushed the entertainment medium beyond the event horizon, and the opportunities are unprecedented," Dyack, the company's Chief Creative Officer, said in a statement on the studio's website. "Together, we have the expertise to make an incredible impact on the marketplace with diverse and specialized platforms for original IP."

Explaining his goals as they related to video games, Dyack told IGN: "A lot of the television that you're seeing is really bleeding into a lot of the things that we do in video games. A lot of the things that you see in film are bleeding into a lot of the things that we do in video games."

"I wanted to do something that was a lot more than just video games," he added.

Dyack is joined at QE2 by other media figures, including Canadian film and TV veteran Jonathan Soon-Shiong, who will serve as the company's CEO. The company's Chief Operating Officer is Paul Rapovski, who worked on Lost Girl and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.

Dyack tried to get Shadow of the Eternals off the ground at Precursor Games, but multiple crowdfunding campaigns came up short. He explained today that his new vision for the game, which is now in active production, will extend beyond just gaming.

"(We're) looking at it from a film and television side," Dyack said. "We've got more going on that we're just not ready to talk about yet."

Controversy surrounded Precursor Games in summer 2013, when one of its developers was arrested on child porn charges.

Game Development Can Ruin Your Social Life, Smash Bros. Director Says

Game development can "destroy" a person's social life, according to Super Smash Bros. series director Masahiro Sakurai. In his latest Weekly Famitsu column, Sakurai spells out the personal toll game development can have on a person, at least for a game like Super Smash Bros.

"Making things like this takes its toll," Sakurai wrote, as translated by Kotaku. "Developing Smash Bros. destroys a lot of one's private life."

Sakurai explained that he often considers delegating tasks to other employees more regularly, but this is not always possible. "As a result, I work from mornings to late nights, even on weekends and holidays," he said. "I hardly have any free time, let alone time to play other games."

This intense work schedule is not a new thing for Sakurai. He revealed that during the end of development on 2008's Wii game Super Smash Bros. Brawl, there were times when he would work for 40 straight hours, only taking four hours off to sleep before returning to the office.

"I hardly have any free time, let alone time to play other games" -- Masahiro Sakurai

The hours have not been as long for the new Super Smash Bros. game for 3DS and Wii U, he explained. However, due to a long list of new features, as well as his advancing age, development has been no walk in the park, either.

"I'm not young anymore so I can't push myself like I did then, but I feel that the business due to the sheer amount of features [in the games] was much greater this time around," he said. "My routine was trying to complete my daily work every day while doing my best to maintain my health day after day."

Sakurai also explained that the stress of his daily duties sometimes makes him consider what life is really all about. "Sometimes I wind up thinking about life itself. Things like 'why is it again that people are born?'" Sakurai said. "The work is large enough and difficult enough that it can affect how you look at life."

If Nintendo moves forward with another Super Smash Bros. game, Sakurai said he'll need to carefully consider how he approaches development as it relates to maintaining a healthier work/life balance. "I've passed my limit long ago," he said.

Though Sakurai's comments might lead you to believe he is unhappy with his role and position, he assures fans that the opportunity to work on and shape a beloved franchise such as Super Smash Bros. is not lost on him.

"I believe I should be thankful that I am given such funds to be able to use such iconic characters and content that represent Japanese games with such freedom, and have multitudes of people across the world play with them," he said.

Sakurai further mentioned that he hopes his story can help people hoping to break into the industry understand the realities of game development. He ended his column, saying: "I'm not depressed and I continue to remain healthy and positive, but developing Smash Bros. is beyond hard."

In addition to mental pain around the development of Super Smash Bros., last year, Sakurai revealed that he was suffering from calcific tendinitis and muscle ruptures in his right shoulder, which affected mobility of his right arm.

Super Smash Bros. for 3DS was released earlier this year to big sales, while the Wii U version is due to launch on November 21.

Battlefield 5 Delay Good for the Franchise, Analyst Says

Written By Kom Limpulnam on Rabu, 29 Oktober 2014 | 21.51

Electronic Arts' decision to launch Battlefield 5 (or whatever comes after Battlefield Hardline) in 2016 instead of 2015 was a smart move for the overall health of the series. That's according to Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia, who said in a note to investors today that launching the game in 2016 will help the Battlefield series avoid franchise "fatigue."

If the new Battlefield game were to launch in 2015, it would mean EA would have released two major Battlefield titles in the year. Hardline is scheduled to launch on March 17, 2015.

No new Battlefield in fall 2015, but Star Wars: Battlefront will fill its place

In explaining the delay, EA CEO Andrew Wilson said waiting a year to launch the next Battlefield game will give players more time to enjoy Hardline.

"As a result of the extended services and content updates that we provide, it's clear that players want to experience the games we're delivering for longer periods of time," Wilson said on Tuesday. "Looking into next year, we will ensure that our players have enough time between releases to fully explore the depth and innovation in our shooter titles."

Although EA will not have a new Battlefield game out for next holiday, the publisher will have a major first-person shooter series launching then in the form of Star Wars: Battlefront. During a financial call on Tuesday, EA confirmed that this game will launch in holiday 2015, in the same window that J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: Episode VII comes to theaters.

"Management has increased confidence in the potential success of this title, which also helps to explain their decision to delay Battlefield 5," Bhatia said. "We think the decision to move Battlefield 5 will optimize the potential for the Battlefield franchise (and avoid franchise fatigue), and also should result in a more consistent revenue/EPS growth pattern for EA."

EA has said previously that it doesn't want to annualize the series, similar to what Activision has done with Call of Duty.

EA Origin's Next Free Game Is From 1995

Electronic Arts is currently giving away copies of 1995 game Crusader: No Remorse as part of the "On the House" promotion for Origin. The game normally sells for $5, but you can get it free today.

EA's On the House games don't come with any strings attached, but there is no saying when the deal will expire, so you're encouraged to act quickly if you want to pick up a free copy.

Crusader: No Remorse was developed by Origin Systems and originally launched in August 1995. You play as a "Silencer," an elite enforcer who works for the World Economic Consortium, but later joins the rebellion. "Now, your former employers better watch their backs because you're coming after them with all the firepower at your command," reads a line from the game's description.

This is an old game, so your current computer shouldn't have any issue running it. But just in case you're wondering, here are the minimum system requirements:

MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Windows XP or Windows Vista
  • 1.8 GHz Processor
  • 512MB RAM (1 GB recommended)
  • 3D graphics card compatible with DirectX 7 (compatible with DirectX 9 recommended)
  • 2 GB HDD
  • Mouse, keyboard

EA launched the On the House promotion in March with Dead Space. Other past freebies have included Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger, Dragon Age: Origins, and Bejeweled 3, among others. EA says the goal of the On the House promotion is to show off Origin and "provide a great gaming experience" to players. The publisher also runs Game Time, a promotion where gamers can play titles, usually newer ones, for free for a period of time--often 48 hours.

Titanfall Xbox One 50% Off Alongside Huge Markdowns On DLC

Written By Kom Limpulnam on Selasa, 28 Oktober 2014 | 21.51

The Xbox One version of Respawn Entertainment's sci-fi shooter Titanfall can now be had for $25, just half of its normal $50 price. The deal is valid today, and the savings don't stop there.

Titanfall's DLC pass is available at a 66-percent discount, dropping from $25 to $8.25. That means you can buy the game and all expansions (Expedition, Frontier's Edge, and IMC Rising) for $33.25.

The one caveat is that you'll need to have an Xbox Live Gold ($60/year) subscription to take advantage of the savings. But given the multiplayer-focused nature of Titanfall, you'd need an Xbox Live Gold subscription anyway to take full advantage of the game.

The Titanfall savings do not apply to the Xbox 360 or PC versions of the game.

This deal comes less than a week after Respawn introduced a massive game update for Titanfall that brought an entirely new game mode and lots more to the shooter. You can learn more about the update in the video above in written form via our previous coverage.

Walmart Starts Selling Used Games, But GameStop Isn't Worried

Giant retailer Walmart started buying pre-owned games earlier this year, and now it's ready to sell them.

The retailer announced today that it has started selling "certified, pre-owned" games in 1,700 of its more than 3,600 stores across the US. Secondhand games were already available to buy through Walmart's website.

With the move, Walmart is pushing into GameStop's territory. But GameStop isn't worried. In fact, the retailer says Walmart's move could actually be a boon for GameStop overall.

"Target, Walmart, Best Buy, Amazon, they've all tried or are trying used games," GameStop president Tony Bartel told Bloomberg. "Frankly, when someone comes it helps us, because it raises awareness that you can turn in video games, and we have the lion's share of the market."

Bartel went on to say that setting the buy and sell prices for used games is not a simple task. If Walmart gets its wrong, the retailer could be stuck with inventory, he said.

Another differentiating factor regarding how GameStop and Walmart conduct their pre-owned business is that GameStop operates its own refurbishment center, while Walmart contracts this out to a third-party. GameStop says operating its business in this way has been one of the main reasons it has been able to remain king of the used game category for a long time.

Next week will be a busy one for Wal-Mart as it relates to gaming. In addition to its used game plans, the retailer has announced a special promotion around Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. The retailer is throwing midnight launch parties at locations nationwide, and you'll be able to buy the Day Zero edition of the game on November 3 without a previous preorder.

The midnight launch events begin at 10 PM local time on Sunday, November 2 at more than 2,800 stores across the US. In the two hours leading up to launch, attendees can participate in Advanced Warfare tournaments and win Call of Duty posters and patches.

In addition, on November 3 and November 4, Walmart will offer 50 percent bonus trade-in credit for any game when you also buy Advanced Warfare. If you're in the market for a new console, you can also score double trade-in value when applying your trade to the purchase of a new PlayStation 4. This deal does not apply to the Xbox One.

Finally, if you buy specially marked packs of Mountain Dew, Diet Mountain Dew, and Doritos, you'll receive a special exoskeleton to use in Advanced Warfare. For more on Advanced Warfare, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

Project Scissors: Resurrecting Clock Tower

It's been over a decade since we've seen a new game in the Clock Tower series: the point-and-click horror franchise made popular by its iconic antagonist, Scissorman. Since the late 90's, series director Hifumi Kono's been busy with other projects, including Capcom's ambitious mech simulator, Steel Battalion. But now, he's back for another stint in horror. While he isn't technically making a new Clock Tower game, he is making a spiritual successor to the series that's defined his career. Kono's resurrecting his unique horror sensibilities in Project Scissors (working title), a game to coming to Vita, iOS, and Android. He and the team at studio Nude Maker are joining forces with the creature designer from Silent Hill, Masahiro Ito, and the director of the Ju-on film series, Takashi Shimizu. Beyond the teaser-like working title, we know very little about Project Scissors, but we recently had a chance to chat with both Kono and Shimizu, who've offered some new insights into what we can expect from Project Scissors down the road.

GameSpot: What inspired you to return to horror and make a game in the spirit of Clock Tower?

Kono: I've been wanting to make a horror game that would be a spiritual successor to Clock Tower for a long time. But I wanted to make sure the core concept of running and hiding is kept intact, along with meaningful new mechanisms.. It would be easy to insert a battle system into the game as a new element, but that would ruin the concept which the original game strived for, making it just another survival horror game. There are plenty of spectacular horror games like that and I don't see any need to make another one myself.

Then one day a perfect idea that fulfilled all the conditions I wanted in my game just came to me. Once I had that, I could finally get started on the project.

How does Project Scissors emulate the themes or direction of the Clock Tower series?

Kono: The core mechanics of running and hiding and the multiple endings are concepts we've carried over from the original game. How those concepts are portrayed however will be in a more modern fashion. For example, we can now do things that were difficult at the time the original was made, like positioning the camera inside a closet the player is hiding in, so that you can silently peek through the gap and survey the scene, making for a really tense gaming moment. When you think of Clock Tower as a series of events triggered by pointing and clicking, it's definitely nice to be able to portray the events that unfold as a result of those actions in a more graphic way.

The original Clock Tower debuted on the Super Famicom in Japan in 1995

Is the "Scissors" in project scissors a reference to a character that may appear in the game, or is it merely a thematic hook used for the project title?

Kono: Of course it'll be an important piece of equipment to certain characters that'll be appearing in the game. You have to keep in mind that this isn't the official sequel for Clock Tower or anything though, so of course we considered other weapons to be used in place of scissors, but in terms of just how mentally accessible the pain scissors can inflict is to people's imaginations, we just couldn't come up with anything else that could inspire that kind of fear.

Think about this for a second: A giant pair of scissors pinches your flesh together and you begin to feel the pain. As you feel the pressure increase, the dull, rusted blades of the scissors begins to tear you apart as they screech against each other, slowly digging in against the resistance of your flesh. It's a slow, horrible way to go, the kind you'd beg for the mercy of a quick death. Don't you think?

Compared to Clock Tower, what sort of mechanical or gameplay changes can we expect?

Kono: We'll be adding certain mechanics to both how you run and hide in the game that'll really add to the sense of tension. You'll really have to think on your feet even if all you're doing is running down a hallway. We'll need to fine-tune these mechanics though, but we've already begun play testing. We also included certain strategies that always allowed you to escape the killer in the original Clock Tower, but we've limited such elements this time around so that you can only use them a certain number of times. This should make for a more difficult and terrifying experience for the player as they struggle to survive. The branching points that lead to the various endings have also been made more complex, which I think will make the game overall more satisfying. While the branching will be more complex, we'll also include a support system that will aid the player along the way.

What are the challenges associated with designing a horror game for portable devices?

Kono: The small screen of a portable device inevitably affects the overall impact that can be achieved, which in turn diminishes the kind of fear you can create. This is a physical/hardware issue, so it may be hard to figure out a solution to this problem. I started thinking about this more seriously after seeing our fans' overwhelming reaction when we announced the project, but we're looking into ways to deliver this game to players on higher-end hardware.

What are your thoughts on modern horror games, in general?

Clock Tower made its debut in North American on the PlayStation in 1997

Kono: "If we're going to make a brand new horror game, let's make something that the market doesn't already offer," is how I would sum up my thoughts, as oppose to, "Let's do another zombie game because zombies are all the rage right now." After all, the horror genre has traditionally been very broad and open to new ideas.

Shimizu: It's not as though I'm familiar with a lot of video games, but I'd really like this to become the kind of game that transcends generational boundaries, with provocative social themes. I don't know if something like this already exists, but I really hope we can create something that appeals to everyone, regardless of age, gender, etc.

How did Masahiro Ito and Takashi Shimizu become involved with the project?

Kono: The talents I invited to this project were chosen not for how famous they were but because I have faith in them from a creative perspective. Mr. Ito is known for 'Pyramid Head' and the 'Bubble Head Nurses' from Silent Hill, and is without a doubt a brilliant designer and artist. Although I was worried a bit that he'd bring with him the sort of unreal/other-worldly art direction of Silent Hill, after talking with him he agreed to adapt his artistic style more towards that of the original Clock Tower, and so I was reassured that I could count on him as a part of the development team.

Shimizu: I got to know Mr. Kono through a friend who's a writer for both films and video games. I actually wouldn't feel very confident working on a horror game that focused on physical carnage, and so I initially considering turning down the offer, but after being told about how he wanted to incorporate the kind of psychologically introverted fear characteristic of J-horror works into the game, I felt that I may be able to help and decided to participate.

How are they influencing the vision for a Clock Tower-like game?

Kono: Not only have they helped establish an incredible world and setting based on what I had envisioned, but they also provide a lot of provocative ideas that really help shape the world. Director Shimizu generally works with a different kind of medium, but there's no question that he has a very deep understanding of the horror genre, and I'm definitely receiving a lot of useful opinions. When we talk about what horror "should" be, there are hardly any differences in our opinions.

Can you give us any more details about the cruise ship and the murders that take place on it?

Kono: That's a difficult one. I don't want to give away anything that would take away from the experience of playing the game so I'll avoid specifics, but I'll go ahead and say that all the murders will be brutal. A certain "slasher" character will be behind all of it of course, but there may also be some mystery elements that may throw off some players. It's currently unclear to what extent we can make the content I've conceived a reality, so for now, this is as much as I can say.

If Project Scissors is a success, will you consider expanding the series?

Kono: Since we're lucky enough to have film director Shimizu working on this project, I'd like to consider not only expanding on the series as a game, but also perhaps as a film adaptation. We've been moving forward with the development of this game based on my ideas, but as a fan of the horror genre I'd be interested to see what kind of film it could become under director Shimizu's lead and interpretation.

The last game in the series, Clock Tower 3, came from Capcom and Sunsoft in 2003

What's the status of the Clock Tower IP? Does Capcom still own it? If so, were you ever in talks with them regarding Project Scissors?

Kono: The current Clock Tower IP is owned by Sunsoft and Capcom. Even though this is not in any way a sequel to the Clock Tower, I do intend to create a product that carries on the spirit of the series. I took the initiative to approach Sunsoft and Capcom in advance to talk about the project, and they did grant me permission to use the phrase "Spiritual successor to Clock Tower," for which I can't thank them enough.

Can you provide any clues to who the other "well known talents" associated with the game are?

Kono: Actually...Nobuko Toda, well known worldwide for her work as a composer on games like the Metal Gear Solid series and Halo, will be joining our team! I am very much looking forward to listening to the music that Ms. Toda will be composing for our game.

Also, we look forward to surprising everyone with another creative professional scheduled to join our team. If you want a hint, take a look at my previous games. What I look for in a creator is "reliable creativity," and you'll find hints as to who hidden in my previous works.

Are you ready for another game like Clock Tower? Do you think a horror game, even if it's built on the foundation of a point-and-click series, can work on a mobile device? Let us know in the comments below

GTA 5 Xbox One/PS4/PC Upgrade Bonuses Revealed

Rockstar Games today announced a long list of exclusive content that people who already own Grand Theft Auto V on Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 will receive if they buy the game again for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, or PC. The fact that returning players would receive bonus content was announced back in September, but today marks the first time Rockstar is revealing specific details regarding what players will receive.

Below is a roundup of the exclusive content coming to returning players, though it represents only "some" of the content, suggesting that Rockstar has more to announce later on.

New Events & Rewards -- Players will find new events happening throughout Los Santos and Blaine County. Players can complete these challenges to unlock special rewards, such as the Imponte Duke O'Death car and the Dodo seaplane.

Murder Mystery -- When playing as Michael, you'll take on the role of a detective in a special mission where you must solve a grisly murder. If you're successful, you'll unlock two noir-style filters for GTA V's single-player mode that should give off the feeling of a "gritty, old-school crime classic."

New Weapons -- First up is the high-velocity Rail Gun (pictured above). The other is the Hatchet melee weapon, which you can use to "hack and slash foes."

Wildlife Photography Challenge -- New species of animals will populate Los Santos and Blaine County in the Xbox One, PS4, and PC versions of GTA V. When playing as Franklin, you'll take on a job from the Los Santos Tourist Board to document these. If you're successful, you will unlock the Kraken Sub.

Stock Car Races -- Win these events and you'll earn custom-made muscle cars.

Monkey Mosaics -- A street artist is tagging the walls of Los Santos will monkey-inspired silhouettes. Your job is track down and photograph every tag to earn new monkey outfits (for all players) and a special Go Go Monkey Blista for returning players.

New Vehicles and More -- Up for grabs for returning players is the Cheval Marshall monster truck and the faster moving and more maneuverable Blimp.

In addition to this content, Rockstar says there will be a "bounty" of new content for all players--returning and new--including an array of vehicles and "more surprises."

Rockstar also reminded players that your existing Grand Theft Auto Online characters will carry forward to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, or PC regardless of which platform you originally played on. In addition, anyone who preorders GTA V will receive $1 million worth of in-game currency, which will be split evenly between single-player and GTA Online.

Lastly, Rockstar answered a series of fan questions today about the upcoming Xbox One, PS4, and PC versions of GTA V. You can see the questions and responses, written by Rockstar staff, published below.

GTA V launches for Xbox One and PS4 on November 18, while the PC version is coming January 2015.

What about the exclusive in-game content I originally received for purchasing the PS3 or Xbox 360 Special Edition or Collectors Edition last year? Will I be able to access that content on PS4, Xbox One or PC?

Yes, if you purchased the Special Edition or the Collector's Edition last year, when you upgrade to one of the new systems, you will automatically have those items unlocked and accessible. Those in-game bonuses include the Stunt Plane Trials, Bonus Outfits and Tattoos, and the Pistol .50, Bullpup Shotgun and melee Hammer all for Story Mode use; as well as the Custom Classic GTA Parent Characters and the high-end Khamelion electric car for GTA Online. Furthermore, if you missed out on your chance to buy a CE or SE the last time around, we will also make all of that content available for all players on PS4, Xbox One and PC to earn and acquire with in-game cash (original SE and CE owners will not have to spend any in-game cash to obtain them, they will automatically be accessible upon upgrade).

Can you only make the GTA Online character progress transfer once? If I transfer my GTA Online character to the new systems, will I still be able to play with him/her on my PS3 or Xbox 360?

Yes, you will only be able to transfer your character once. After transferring your character to PS4, Xbox One, or PC, you can continue playing with him/her on your PS3 or Xbox 360 but the progress you make while playing is not shared to the character you transferred to your new version.

Will PC players also receive the exclusive upgrade content like the Dodo and Dukes?

Yes indeed! The content detailed above will be available to returning players on all three new platforms.

Will any of these updates being made for the new systems be also made available for the previous generation of consoles?

The vastly enhanced graphics and many other gameplay updates on the new versions of Grand Theft Auto V are really only made possible by virtue of the powerful new hardware of the new consoles and PC. Some of the other updates such as the upgrade content detailed above are being designed exclusively as a reward for returning players so those will not be released on the previous versions; however do stay tuned for more updates to be made available for Grand Theft Auto Online across all platforms and we'll have more information on that soon.

Will my created Jobs transfer over to the new systems?

Yes, any Jobs you've published in GTA Online using the Creator tool will transfer over so that you and others can continue playing them on the new platforms. Please be aware however that Leaderboards, Snapmatics, Playlists and bookmarks are unique to the console generation you made them on so those will not carry over. (GTAV photographers should get ready to take all-new high-res Snapmatics!)

Will 30-person GTA Online sessions include competitive modes such as Races and Deathmatches?

Yes, they will! GTA Online on the new systems will support 30 players not just in Free Roam but in competitive modes as well (unless of course the Job you're playing has been designed to be set to a specifically lower player max). We look forward to seeing what unique matches the community can create for a vastly increased number of players.

After Xbox One Price Cut, Microsoft Says Console Has "Bright Future"

Written By Kom Limpulnam on Senin, 27 Oktober 2014 | 21.50

Following Microsoft's somewhat surprise announcement today of a $50 price cut for all Xbox One systems, company executive Aaron Greenberg says the move--along with big games and new IP--will pave the way for a "bright future" for the console.

"We have the best games, exclusives, and new IP," Greenberg said to a fan on Twitter, reiterating Microsoft's stance on the appeal of the Xbox One. "A bright future ahead for sure!"

The $50 off deal begins this Sunday, November 2. It's good (in the United States only) for standard Xbox One systems with or without Kinect, as well as the Assassin's Creed Unity, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, and Sunset Overdrive bundles.

The price cut will make the Xbox One less expensive than the rival PlayStation 4, which sells for $400. Sony has not announced any limited-time deals for their console this holiday, at least not yet.

With more than 10 million systems sold as of August 2014, the PS4 is the king of the current-generation consoles. Microsoft has not announced a new tally for the Xbox One in months, though sales are believed to be north of 5 million units.

GTA 5 Runs at 1080p on PS4, Report Claims

The PlayStation 4 version of Grand Theft Auto 5 will render at 1080p, according to a new report.

Although Rockstar Games has not officially discussed the specs for its next-gen crime-opus, the UK publication Official PlayStation Magazine has made unequivocal claims regarding its resolution.

The publication writes: "Glimmering 1080p presentation, hugely increased draw distance, 100 new songs, fresh wild-life, a bumper version of GTA Online, this is sandbox you've dreamt about ever since you slotted Sony's angular baby under your TV."

It adds: "Farewell 720p. You served your purpose adequately enough. Still, our eyes have been gagging for 1080p's pin-sharp pleasures and the Los Santos sandbox is only too happy to oblige on PS4, running at a native 1920x1080 pixels."

The article's author writes that distant billboards "pop with clarity" and that "texture assets have been reworked across the entire game."

GameSpot has contacted Rockstar Games for comment. A representative for Official PlayStation Magazine was unable to elaborate on the matter.

The GTA 5 release date falls on November 18 for PS4 and Xbox One. The GTA V PC release date has been delayed to January 27.

Rockstar says the next-gen editions of its multi-million selling blockbuster will benefit from a number of technical improvements, such as enhanced detail and longer draw distances.

Additional features for both the next-gen and PC versions include:

  • New weapons, vehicles and activities
  • Additional wildlife
  • Denser traffic
  • New foliage system
  • Enhanced damage and weather effects

Those who pre-order the next-gen and PC versions will also receive $1,000,000 in-game bonus cash to spend across Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online.

As previously speculated, the development team at Rockstar North will also bolster its in-game radio stations with more than 100 new songs and new DJ mixes.

Meanwhile, for the next-gen versions of GTA Online the player count has increased, allowing up to 30 players on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. All existing gameplay upgrades and content released on GTA Online will also be available on the next-gen and PC editions, with Rockstar pledging "much more to come."
