WWE 2K15 will dip into wrestling's more recent history for its single-player mode, with rivalries between Shawn Michaels and Triple H from 2002-2004 and John Cena and CM Punk from 2011-2013 confirmed for the game's 2K Showcase mode.

2K Showcase will feature 33 matches from the two feuds, and like last year's well-received Road to Wrestlemania mode, will incorporate classic WWE footage, new WWE superstar commentary, and cinematic cut scenes in an attempt to create a "documentary" feel. Playing through the mode in WWE 2K15 will unlock new superstars, ring attire, and more.

WWE 2K15 executive producer Mark Little has confirmed that more rivalries will be released post game launch as DLC, but did not specify what feuds were being considered.

In an interview to promote the game, WWE superstar Shawn Michaels said the inclusion of his famous feud with The Game was "nothing short of pretty cool."

"It was such a feel good moment (his return to the WWE in 2002), and then Triple H turned on me like the rabid dog that he is. The thing that I always enjoyed about that rivalry was that it went for two years. That is hard to come by anymore. There as so much that happened in that two years," Michaels said.

"One of the things I always enjoy about the video games are the fantasy matches, the ones you never got to see but now can come to life. And the one I'm very excited about is Sting. I never got a chance to wrestle him, but that can happen in the game."

Sting was recently announced as one of the playable superstars in WWE 2K15. People who preorder the game will receive not one, but two versions of the famous wrestler. The first will be his iconic black and white face paint look, while the second will be based on his earlier, more colorful days.

WWE 2K15 is being co-developed by Yukes and Visual Concepts, and is coming October 28 for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, and PS4, before launching in international markets on October 31.

The storyline for Naughty Dog's critically acclaimed game The Last of Us is getting an overhaul for its big screen treatment.

Speaking in an interview with MCV UK, the film's writer Neil Druckmann, who was also writer and creative director on The Last of Us, explained that "some parts [of the film] will be similar to the game and some parts will be quite different."

"In two hours you can't tell the same kind of story that you can in a game like The Last of Us, which is 15 hours. I'm in the middle of it now, and it's been super difficult because there's so much that happens in The Last of Us – even just in the cinematics – that can't fit in a film, let alone all the gameplay in-between and dialogue," he said.

However, Druckmann stated that the film will still retain the core relationship between Ellie and Joel, despite possibly facing other significant changes. "The first part of it was like: well, what is this story really about? It's clearly about Joel and Ellie. What are the most important beats that we can't lose? Start with those, and cut everything else out," he said.

At last month's Comic-Con, Game of Thrones actress Maisie Williams was cited as a possible candidate to play the female lead in the film, although no castings have been confirmed. Spider-Man and The Evil Dead director Sam Raimi is signed on to produce the film.

Epiphany Games recently announced episodic role-playing game Majestic Nights, which draws it's subject matter from the conspiracy theories of the 1980's and treats them as reality. In it, players step into the role of male intelligence operative Cardholder and female private investigator Cal. The characters work to uncover clues surrounding various conspiracy theories and reveal the truth behind them. Epiphany Games CEO Morgan Lean shared five intriguing reasons to explore the game.

Travel Back To The Neon Glow Of The '80s

Despite being set in an alternate version of the '80s, Lean stated that knowledge of the era is not necessary to understand it, although familiarity with the subject matter would be beneficial.

"You don't need to know the '80s to get it, but it's definitely an advantage to know some of the pop culture of the era. We wanted to be able to contrast the bright, colorful and lively '80s with some of the darkest cover-ups and conspiracies of the last 50 years - there really was no other decade that could do it!" he said.

It's Like A Mash-Up Of The X-Files, Airwolf, And Indiana Jones

"The X-Files definitely was a huge influence along with Knight Rider, Airwolf, Miami Vice and Dark Skies. For movies we had Indiana Jones, Big Trouble in Little China and Back to the Future." Lean said.

Real-life conspiracy theories also had a significant influence on the game, with Lean citing inspirations from the moon landing hoax and Project MKUltra, a secret US government program investigating the possibilities of mind control, which launched in the 1950s. The project was eventually brought to light in the 1970s.

"I was investigating conspiracies and afterwards, I worked out that some were true, and I wondered 'How could we make a game that shows people the reality?'" he said.

It Could Come To Consoles

Epiphany Games is familiar with developing for the PC, Mac, and mobile platforms, with real-time strategy game Frozen Hearth having launched for PC in September last year. With a background in developing games for such platforms, releasing Majestic Nights for these made "the most sense."

Lean did not entirely rule out the possibility of a console launch though, having said that the developer "absolutely [wanted] Majestic Nights on consoles, and plan to do that as soon as we can. For launch, though, we're going with what we know and are good at."

Play As Both Male And Female Protagonists

When asked whether the decision to include both sexes stemmed from the recent Ubisoft controversy, Lean said the playable protagonists were "just the characters we wrote... as a small indie studio we have the creative freedom and flexibility to be able to make the characters we want to make,"

Speaking specifically about Ubisoft's recent comments about creating female characters in its games, Lean said, "people like to latch on to conflict… we wrote the character almost a year ago now, so none of the controversy from Ubisoft or anyone else really factored into the decision. Their all-male cast is their decision - doesn't matter to us. There is definitely an under-representation of women in games - that's totally true. I suppose because we have no publisher, we can just do what we like."

Its Episodes Could Be Standalone Stories

Speaking on the choice of releasing the game in episodes, Lean said the studio "wanted to be able to create sets of stories in advance that were quite diverse, and to be able to have a natural way to switch between players."

According to him, the desire to have multiple writers also suited the chosen format. "Each chapter will really feel different, and in the same way comic books can go in different directions based on which author is penning them. [Majestic Nights] has that same flexibility."

To take on the task of creating episodic content, Epiphany Games has two content teams who "leapfrog" the chapters to work on the game. According to Lean, Majestic Nights is targeted at gamers who sport a love of stories and the role-playing genre. If the idea of investigating conspiracy theories sounds appealing, the prologue for Majestic Nights is scheduled to launch in September this year as a free download. A total of six episodes are planned, with one released each subsequent month. The game will launch for PC, Mac, iOS, and Android tablets.

Dark fantasy role-playing game Risen 3: Titan Lords launches in Australian retailers this week for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. The game is developed by Piranha Bytes, creators of the iconic Gothic RPG series.

Risen 3: Titan Lords returns to the medieval setting that was explored in the first Risen. The game is the sequel to Risen 2: Dark Waters, and features a world which players can shape with the decisions they make. Bjoern Pankratz, project lead at Piranha Bytes described exploration as "key to [the] game."

For those who would prefer to trade fantasy for modern day war, World of Tanks will finally be making its way to retail for the Xbox 360. The game was released earlier this year via Xbox Live Arcade as World of Tanks: Xbox 360 Edition and is developed by a separate studio to that of the PC version, Wargaming West.

The game was well-received in GameSpot's review, praised for its balance of authenticity and accessibility, and its approach to rewarding players for strategic play.

Marianne Krawczyk, who won a BAFTA award for her character and story work on God of War II, thinks that the popularity of post-apocalyptic games is a reflection of our own troubled times.

"With climate change, revolutions starting every other day, YouTube beheadings, corporations being recognized as people, massive oil spills, etc, etc, etc., I think it's very easy to feel small and powerless," Krawczyk said in an interview posted to Gamasutra. "So one take on why the post-apocalyptic world is resonating with people is that it's a reflection of our own troubled times and, more to the point, the lack of control that we have over what is happening. It just seems like it's a matter of time before we are there in some way or another."

While that is certainly a grim interpretation, Krawczyk also said that there's an inherently optimistic aspect to these types of games, because at their core, post-apocalyptic worlds are about survival and the hope that there's an answer despite the sad state of affairs.

"When we take this very human condition and manifest it in a world where you get to play, shoot stuff and take back some of the control that we currently lack, it makes sense to me these games/stories resonate," she said.

In addition to writing for the God of War series, Krawczyk also worked on the Prince of Persia series, Far Cry, and Skylanders. She recently started teaching a course at the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television's Professional Programs called "Interactivity: A Course in Video Game Design and Development."

Diablo III: Reaper of Souls - Ultimate Evil Edition for the PlayStation 4 is a 58.4GB download in Europe and a 26.1GB download in the U.S., according to their respective listings on the PlayStation Store.

When Installed on PC, Diablo III and the Reaper of Souls expansion pack take up a little less than 15GB. The 58.4GB download sounds especially large given the fact that the PlayStation 4 comes with a 500GB, though users can replace it with bigger hard drives.

To illustrate just how hefty of a download the European version is, consider that Titanfall was about a 20GB download on PC, and 48GB when installed, due mostly to its uncompressed audio.

The difference between the U.S. and European versions of the game could be due to multiple language audio tracks in the European version, as well as multiple language cutscenes.

Some European commenters on the PlayStation Blog are reporting that preordering the game is queueing up multiple downloads. One is 20.5GB and seems to be just the English version of the game, and another is 37.8GB and seems to contain the European localization, though it's unclear if users can choose which to download.

We've reached out to Activision for comment and will update this story as we receive new information.

Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition launches August 19 for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, and PS4. The game contains the main Diablo III game and the Reaper of Souls expansion. As we learned at E3, the PS4 version of the game includes infected from The Last of Us, as well as a special Shadow of the Colossus transmog set.

Kalypso Media, publisher of the Tropico series, has announced Dungeons 2, a sequel to its dungeon management simulation game from 2011.

Much like the classic game Dungeon Keeper from Peter Molyneux, Dungeons 2 asks you to build a network of dungeons, recruit an army of evil minions that you can keep in line by slapping them around with your Hand of Terror, and defend your dungeon from invading heroes. A new addition to Dungeons 2 is the ability to take your armies above ground, and fight the humans in more traditional real-time strategy battles.

The game will feature a single player campaign with two playable factions, 26 unique creatures, and multiple types of heroes and game modes.

Dungeons 2 is being developed by the creators of the original game, Realmforge Studios, and is set to release in 2015 for the PC, Mac, and Linux.

Kalypso also released a CGI announcement trailer, but you'll get a better feel for the game by checking out the screenshots below.

The Dungeon Keeper series, which is owned by Electronic Arts, is still around in the form of a free-to-play mobile game. Unfortunately, it was heavily criticized for its in-app purchases, prompting EA CEO Andrew Wilson to admit that the company "misjudged" the game's economy.

PC Gaming accessories manufacturer Roccat has revealed the Nyth, a modular gaming mouse that allows you to 3D print and attach your own buttons.

Roccat describes the Nyth as an "MMO mouse," but says you could easily transform it into a MOBA or first-person shooter mouse with custom button placement and interchangeable side-parts. Roccat hasn't detailed the process, but presumably you'll be able to design your own buttons and side-parts, or use Roccat's growing list of both via an online file library. Roccat did not share any technical details about the mouse, such as its dots per inch (DPI) or response time.

Roccat also announced a new keyboard, Skelter, which will hold and connect to your smartphone via the company's new Swarm Driver software. Connecting your smartphone will allow you to launch applications from your phone, configure different Roccat devices, and answer calls by pressing a button on your keyboard.

You can find out more about Roccat's new devices on its official website.

How would you modify your mouse to play your favorite PC games? Tell us in the comments below.

Eugen Systems, developer of the real-time strategy Wargame series, has announced Act of Aggression for the PC, which it promises is a return to "old-school RTS values."

The game, which Eugen Systems says is shaping up to be its most ambitious project since Act of War (released in 2005), will focus on the core mechanics from the "'90s Golden Era" of real-time strategy games, namely, base building, resource management, unit production, and dynamic battles.

Set in 2020, Act of Aggression will feature three factions: a shadowy organization known as The Cartel, a classified, international military organization known as the Chimere, and the U.S. Army. The game will have two separate single player campaigns, and multiplayer modes where you'll need to upgrade tech trees and control key areas on the map to win the match.

Eugen Systems and publisher Focus Home Interactive have yet to announce a release date, but they will be at Gamescom this week to show off more of Act of Aggression. Gamescom takes place on August 13-17, and GameSpot will be on the ground in Germany to bring you all the news as it happens.

USAopoly, which creates special-themed versions of Monopoly under license from Hasbro, will release an Assassin's Creed-themed version of the board game. For now, the game is only being released in Europe, where some retailers are already taking preorders.

Whereas the hat, car, iron, and other token pieces represent players in the normal version of Monopoly, Assassin's Creed Monopoly lets you choose between the series' different protagonists. You can play as Altair, Ezio, Connor Kenway, his grandfather Edward Kenway, Aveline, or the protagonist of the upcoming Assassin's Creed Unity, Arno Dorian.

Other game pieces will also be changed to match the Assassin's Creed theme. Money will be changed into Abstergo credits, and the usual real estate will be swapped out for historical locations featured in the series. Abstergo Industries and Abstergo Entertainment will replace the game's original prime properties, Boardwalk and Park Place.

USAopoly hasn't said when or if the game will be released in other territories, but it has released all their other gaming inspired board games in North America before.

The Assassin's Creed Monopoly isn't the only board game based on the series. In February, Ubisoft released Assassin's Creed: Arena, a 2-4 player tabletop game created in partnership with Cryptozoic Entertainment (makers of Walking Dead and Adventure Time board games and card decks).

Last week, we learned that USAopoly will release a Legend Zelda-themed version of the board game on September 15, according to a listing on GameStop's website.

Assassin's Creed Unity launches October 28 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. Assassin's Creed Rogue launches on November 11 for Xbox 360 and PS3.

Nintendo has released a new trailer for the upcoming 3DS games Pokemon Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby, showing off more mega-evolved pokemon, Cosplay Pikachu in action, and an "incredibly rare" Pokémon you can get by buying the game early.

Players who buy Pokémon Omega Ruby or Pokémon Alpha Sapphire near launch can receive a Shiny Beldum holding a Mega Stone via a "limited-time" Internet character distribution. As you can see near the end of the trailer above, the Shiny Beldum will evolve into Shiny Metang and then a Shiny Metagross. You can then use the Mega Stone and Mega Evolve Shiny Metagross into Shiny Mega Metagross.

Nintendo did not say exactly how soon after launch it will stop gifting the Pokémon to buyers.

The trailer also shows more of the unbearably adorable Cosplay Pikachu, this time during battle. Cosplay Pikachu has abilities that a normal Pikachu can't learn, and they change depending on the costume. Pikachu Rock Star, for example, knows the Steel-type move Meteor Mash, and Pikachu Pop Star can use Draining Kiss in battle, a Fairy-type move that is effective against Dragon-type Pokémon. Pikachu, Ph.D., Pikachu Belle and, Pikachu Libre all have special moves as well.

To get your Cosplay Pikachu, you must first enter the Pokémon Contest Spectacular at the Hoenn region, where you can test your Pokémon in five different categories: Coolness, Beauty, Cuteness, Cleverness, and Toughness.

Finally, the trailer reveals Mega-Evolved Pokémon like Mega Salamence, Mega Lopunny, and Mega Altaria.

In June, Nintendo announced that the games will have another type of evolution, called Primal Reversion. This form is currently only known for the legendaries Groudon and Kyogre.

Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby launch on November 21. For more on the games, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

]]> 1100-6421622Sun, 10 Aug 2014 10:41:00 -0700 http://www.gamespot.com/articles/pokemon-alpha-sapphire-omega-ruby-early-buyers-get/1100-6421621/
