Rise of the Tomb Raider will use a much more detailed motion capture technology than the one used in the previous Tomb Raider.

The news comes from voice actress Camilla Luddington, who plays Lara Croft in the most recent iteration of the long running franchise.

As she explained on her Twitter account, whereas normal motion capture uses dots placed on the actor's face for points of reference (about 90 points, according to Luddington), Mova, a performance facial capture company for feature film and games, uses a fluorescent paint that is sprayed all over, resulting in more than 7000 points of reference.

This allows for a much more realistic capture, Luddington says, and can conveniently also only be seen under a blacklight.

Square Enix and developer Crystal Dynamics announced Rise of the Tomb Raider during the Microsoft E3 2014 press conference. We don't know much about the game at this point other than the fact that it'll be on Xbox One, it's a direct sequel to the previous Tomb Raider game, and it's coming "holiday 2015."

If you already own Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light for the PC you might be wondering why developer 4A Games isn't offering the Redux versions of the games for free, especially since the latter came out just a little over a year ago.

The short answer is that 4A has put a ton of work into the Redux versions of the games, which significantly improve both their gameplay and graphics.

"Almost the entire team of around 80 people at 4A Games will have been working on the Metro Redux titles for almost a year by the time we release next month," 4A said in a post to Metro 2033 Redux's Steam Community page.

As illustrated clearly by a recent comparison video, it has been a substantial project for 4A, with the main goals of significantly updating the 4A Engine, updating both games to run on it, and adding a host of new gameplay features and content.

4A admits that the Metro 2033 Redux, which came out in 2010, is a far more significant upgrade over the original than Metro: Last Light Redux. However, 4A thinks that offering the Redux versions of the game for a 50 percent discount if you already own the originals is a fair deal. It said it considered other deals, like offering a 75 percent discount on Metro: Last Light Redux if you bought the DLC, but that this raised a number of practical and logistical challenges. Patching the games was also impossible for technical reasons (changes in the Redux versions required dropping 32-bit support).

"We know this response will not please everyone," 4A said. "But even though you still might not agree with the rationale, we do hope you understand that our goal was to reward, not exploit, existing owners while still making a viable business model that allowed this Redux project to go ahead on PC as well as console."

The 50 percent discount, which takes the price of each Redux version of the down from $25 to $12.50, is available only to those who bought the game for PC. The Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of the games will be sold for $25 each or as $50 bundle.

Metro Redux launches on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on August 26.

Assassin's Creed parkour, stealth, and traversal mechanics have all been "completely rebuilt" for the upcoming Assassin's Creed Unity, Ubisoft has said.

The Assassin's Creed series has seen a lot of changes since it first launched in 2007, including different eras, protagonists, and a whole arsenal of gadgets and weapons. But it many ways it never changed. If you've played through all or just a few of the games, you know that the way your character moves, climbs, and jumps around rooftops largely looks and feels the same.

That will not be the case with Unity. In the video above, Ubisoft Creative Director Alex Amancio discusses some of these changes and how they focus on allowing the player more freedom of movement. The most significant one in my opinion is the new ability to "parkour down." One thing that's always been confusing (and slightly annoying) about the Assassin's Creed games is that it's easier to climb up than climb down. A leap of faith into a haystack will get you to the bottom in a second, but climbing down otherwise is a clumsy process of letting go and grabbing ledges before you fall too far and take damage.

In Unity, you can also input control down in order to descend a building smoothly. You can see an example of this in the video around the 1:24. It looks like a big improvement.

Amancio also said that Unity will add multiple stances to the game, allowing players to crouch and go into stealth mode, and a new "AI camera," which can intelligently detect different parameters and adapt to your actions.

Assassin's Creed Unity launches on October 28 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. For more on the game, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

If you've participated in the Destiny beta, hopefully you liked it enough to play through that content again, because whatever progress you've made will not carry over to the full game once it's released.

"Since the Beta, we've continued to tune and adjust the game," Bungie designer Tyson Green said on the developer's website. "The way you earn experience has been adjusted up and down a bunch of times. Items have been added and removed. New features toggled. Although there's no single monumental change, the sum of the tweaks leaves characters from the Beta Build in strange shape that would be confusing at best, broken at worst."

Last month, Bungie was still debating whether or not it will wipe character data after the beta. "It's extremely unknown as to what the outcome will be," Bungie community manager David "Deej" Dague said at the time. "So, it's certainly not a promise or an announcement that we're making at this time. It all depends on what we learn and how things shake out."

Unfortunately, Bungie learned players will have to start over, but on the bright side, the beta only allowed them to play up to Level 8.

A core team of developers from Crytek USA, who previously worked on Darksiders at Vigil Games, have formed a new studio, Gunfire Games, and are exploring a return to the Darksiders series.

Crytek USA's former CEO David Adams decided to leave the company and form the independent studio at the same time we heard a number of reports claiming that Crytek had canceled games and was losing staff after not paying them.

"Forming another independent studio was something that I thought about because of what was going on," Adams told Polygon in an interview. "It got to the point where people were starting to leave."

Now Gunfire Games is looking for some work to get the studio up and running, but is also thinking about its next big project. Adams said one possibility would be another Darksiders game, and that they've already spoken to Nordic Games, which bought the rights to the series during THQ's bankruptcy auction back in April 2013.

Gunfire currently consists of seven people, all of whom were leads at Crytek USA, and is working on another round of hires.

Crytek hired 35 former Vigil Games developers to form Crytek USA after THQ closed its doors in January 2013.

Last month, Crytek announced that as part of its "internal restructuring," staff at its Austin, Texas location (Crytek USA) were laid off, although "several" employees remained behind to assist with CryEngine support for North American developers who have licensed the game-development engine. The game that the studio had been developing, Hunt: Horrors of the Gilded Age, is now handled by Crytek's Frankfurt studio, developer of the Crysis series and Ryse: Son of Rome.

The Assassin's Creed movie will "respect the game" that it's based on, actor Michael Fassbender, who's starring and producing the movie, has said.

"There's so much cool stuff in the game that we're actually spoiled for choice in terms of what we can use and what we can't, but we also want to bring new elements to it and perhaps our own version of things that already exist in the game," Fassbender told IGN in an interview. "But we're definitely making a feature film, and we're approaching it as a feature film, as opposed to approaching it as a video game."

Fassbender added that though he doesn't play many video games, he loves the Assassin's Creed world, and that he was interested in making it into a movie ever since he met with Ubisoft and was introduced the series' main conceit: being able to experience the past through the DNA we share with our ancestors.

The movie was previously delayed to August 2015, and there were rumors that Fassbender left the project, but he said that they are not true and that the writers are still working on the script.

Justin Kurzel, who recently directed Fassbender in Macbeth, is attached to direct the Assassin's Creed movie.

Ubisoft has a total of six movies in the pipeline. In addition to Assassin's Creed, the French publisher is making movies based on its Far Cry, Rabbids, Watch Dogs, Splinter Cell, and Ghost Recon franchises. In all instances, Ubisoft will retain creative control.

Assassin's Creed Unity launches October 28 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. Assassin's Creed Rogue launches on November 11 for Xbox 360 and PS3.

A Destiny theme song by former Beatle Paul McCartney will release as a single, according to a report from The New York Times.

McCartney has been working with Bungie and its recently fired composer Marty O'Donnell on Destiny's soundtrack, on and off, since 2010. If you've played the beta, then you've already heard a portion of their work, but according to the Times, McCartney recently decided to collaborate on a theme song for the game.

The song, which we don't have a title for yet, was recorded at the famous Abbey Road Studios with a 120-piece ensemble. It was produced by Mark Stent, who previously worked with artists like Madonna, Bjork, and Lady Gaga. According to the Times, the song is about hope.

Previously, McCartney only mentioned his collaboration with O'Donnell and Bungie once, in a tweet. "I'm really excited to be working on writing music with @bungie, the studio that made Halo," he said.

The single will release "soon" after the game launches.

O'Donnell, who worked at Bungie for more than a decade and composed Halo's iconic theme song, was fired in April, "without cause," he claimed. O'Donnell has since filed a lawsuit against Bungie, but settled out of court for $95,000.

Activision has released the Nuketown 2025 map for the Wii U version of Call of Duty: Black Ops II.

Wii U players started noticing the map appearing in the game earlier this week and were undestandbly a little surprised since the map is about two years late to the party. Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 for the Wii U launched in November 2012, and the Nuketown 2025 map was orginally supposed to be a pre-order bonus. It was released on other platforms shortly after the game launched.

Why developer Treyarch and publisher Activision decided to release it now is unclear, but it does coincide with a double XP weekend.

Nuketown 2025 is a reimagined version of the Nuketown map from Call of Duty: Black Ops, which is one of the smallest in the series.

The Zombies mode map Die Rise might also be added to the game soon. Some Wii U users reported they saw the map appear at the same time as Nuketown 2025, but were not able to launch it.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II launched in November 2012 and generated $1 billion in revenue in under a month.

The next game in the series, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, launches November 4 for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC.

DICE plans to release a Battlefield 4 update in September that will include "core gameplay improvements," the developer has announced.

DICE has been working on the update for two months as part of its Community Test Environment (CTE), where its been testing improvements and changes to Battlefield 4 with the help of PC players since May.

One of the more interesting changes that will come in the update pertains to soldier movement, which DICE said has been made to closely match the one in Battlefield 3, but without compromising visual fidelity. This change should also make it easier to escape undesirable firefights.

Other major fixes in the update include tweaks to a number of game modes, a "de-cluttering" of the HUD/User Interface to show only what is most important, and a special effort to make revives easier to use and understand.

The update will also include more "netcode" improvements, which should further address the performance issues that Battlefield 4 has experienced since launch.

DICE said that CTE's next initiative is the Teamplay Initiative, which will include improvements to Commander mode, Squads, Field Upgrades, as well as further features and bug fixes.

For the full list of changes included in the next update and how to take part in the CTE, head over to the Battlefield Blog.

Thanks to Electronic Arts' Game Time promotion for Origin, you can also play Battlefield 4 for free for a week if you download the game before August 14, 10 AM PDT.

The next entry in the Battlefield series is Battlefield Hardline, which was recently delayed from fall 2014 to early 2015.

A new Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor video goes in-depth with the actors working on the title. Shadow of Mordor Features Troy Baker as the ranger Talion and Alastair Duncan playing the ghostly Celebrimbor. In the-behind-the scenes clip, the actors discuss the complex relationship of their characters.

Voice actor Baker is known for roles such as Joel in The Last of Us, the Joker in Batman: Arkham Origins, and Booker DeWitt in BioShock Infinite. Duncan Voice previously voice in other games including Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and the Mass Effect series.

"What's so interesting about the character was that level of mystery that my character has, the voyage of discovery that the player is going to go on with my character through that game and with Talion" said Duncan. "We are very separate characters in this, but our characters are melded at times. The interesting part is when we are separate and we're either in conflict or trying to make a plan or moving forward through something or discovering things about ourselves."

Baker said, "there were challenges with developing the characters individually and also how those two would work in concert with each other, because not only narratively but systemically we have to establish that. You never want to do anything that, from a narrative aspect, doesn't support gameplay and in turn we don't want to make gameplay in stark contrast to the story."

Shadow of Mordor is an open-world single-player game, with players controlling Talion, a ranger with Wraith-like powers, such as being able to teleport and control enemies. The game features a new Nemesis system where each enemy you face has unique attributes with their own personality, strengths, and weaknesses. Enemies learn from their experiences and can even grow in rank and esteem. The Nemesis system will be scaled back for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game compared to the current-gen and PC releases

Warner Bros. recently announced it will launch Shadow of Mordor one week earlier than previously dated. Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor will now launch September 30 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360, with a PC release on October 2.

Destiny launches September 9 for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4. For more, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

Better late than never, or too little too late? Let us know in the comments below.
