The rumors were right. Microsoft today announced Forza Horizon 2, a sequel to 2012's original Forza Horizon coming to Xbox 360 and Xbox One this fall. The original game's developer, Playground Games, is leading development in close collaboration from Forza Motorsport 5 outfit Turn 10 Studios. Microsoft made the announcement on IGN today, noting that Playground Games and Turn 10 will share technology and "key personnel."
According to the IGN editor who wrote the story, Playground Games is working on the Xbox One version of Forza Horizon 2, while another studio to be named later is handling the Xbox 360 version.
Forza Horizon 2 will include "hundreds" of cars, including the 2015 Lamborghini Huracan you see above. There's also going to be a weather system, and Forza 5's "Drivatar" feature will carry forward to Forza Horizon 2. The game takes place in Southern Europe, which Playground Games says should allow for "incredibly diversity" and "amazing visuals."
Like the original Forza Horizon, music will play a major role in Forza Horizon 2. A music festival will be the "central event" that is the focus of all the game's activities, according to the IGN report. For more on the original Forza Horizon, check out GameSpot's review.
