I was mostly talking about music in general, not game music. And by "from the heart" I'm talking about people who write their own music and lyrics. You can feel their own personal connection to it when you hear them sing it or play the instrument.

In contract you have modern (basically the popular stuff out these days), that are written in a way that's based on modern trends and subject matter, rather than the writers personal emotions and experiences. These songs are then performed by someone else how has even less of a personal connection to the song. Heck, they may not even know what they are singing about.

You can really feel it in the way the person sings, or just in the music. It doesn't feel organic, it barely feels of anything. There's no emotion involved and it just feels like it a computer randomly generated a couple of things and banged it together in a preset order.

As for game music - sure it's designed to invoke specific emotions, and having played the games and experienced in, people tend to get a personal attachment to it, based on their experiences in the game and their own choices. But the key here is that they are focused on emotion. They want the audience to feel an emotion when listening to it. Modern pop music doesn't. All they care about is making a catchy song that people can't get out of their heads, regardless of whether they like the song or not.
