Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is "the Best Game Of Our Lives," Dev Claims

Written By Kom Limpulnam on Rabu, 03 September 2014 | 21.50

This November's Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is, according to Sledgehammer Games co-founder Glen Schofield, the best game he has ever made. He said as much on Twitter this morning, explaining that development on the project is nearly finished ahead of its release for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC (but not Wii U) on November 4.

Sledgehammer Games' other founder, Michael Condrey, also chimed in to say he's getting excited about the forthcoming launch of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.

Prior to establishing Sledgehammer Games, Schofield and Condrey collaborated to create the Dead Space series for Electronic Arts. Schofield and Condrey's previous development credits include various games based on major licenses like Lord of the Rings and James Bond.

Sledgehammer Games formally unveiled Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare's multiplayer mode during Gamescom last month, showing off how the game-changing exosuits affect head-to-head matches. However, we still have more to learn about the game before its release. One major mode Sledgehammer Games has not talked about yet officially is co-op.

Further Delay for Shin Megami Tensei 4 in Europe

The acclaimed JRPG Shin Megami Tensei 4 has been delayed in Europe by one month, a representative for the game's developer Atlus has announced.

Though the 3DS title first shipped in Japan back in May 2013, localisation work meant the North America release was delayed to July.

Now some fourteen months later, Atlus says the medieval themed RPG will not arrive in Europe until "late October".

John Hardin, a representative for Atlus in the US, wrote on Twitter that the extended delay was due to unforeseen complications.

"We encountered a few last-minute issues specific to the EU version, and we have to fix them," he explained.

"Given the current timelines for production, it looks like SMTIV won't be out in EU until late October."

Hardin says the team at Atlus feels "awful" for delaying the game further, but hoped that fans could remain patient.

"No one likes delays. Our fans in Europe have been waiting for SMTIV for a very long time, and it pains us to have to move the release date back even further," he wrote.

"I have talked to a few of you on Twitter, I've seen the angry posts on Reddit, NeoGAF, Facebook, etc, and wanted to be as direct as I could. We truly feel awful having to say 'wait a little longer' for a game you've been so zealously patient for, but there is no other recourse. We're doing everything we can to get the game out in Europe as fast as we can, so please bear with us."

GameSpot's Shin Megami Tensei 4 review was largely positive about the title. The review described the game as boasting "a wonderfully twisted world filled with surprises."

Red Dead Redemption "Rejuvenated" the Western Genre, Take-Two Says

Rockstar Games' 2010 open-world action game Red Dead Redemption "rejuvenated the Western entertainment genre," according to the developer's parent company, Take-Two Interactive. The company dropped the quote as part of a "shareholder outreach" document filed this week with the United States Securities & Exchange Commission.

Red Dead Redemption has shipped more than 13 million copies to date, and is one of ten Take-Two franchises that has sold-in more than 5 million copies during its lifetime. The game was adored by critics at release, and currently has a 95 rating on GameSpot sister site Metacritic.

Though there is no word yet on a potential sequel, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has previously described Red Dead Redemption as a "permanent" franchise like the James Bond movie series, suggesting 2010's installment won't be the last. Development on that title was led by Rockstar San Diego, which appears to be staffing up for a big project. The studio is currently looking to fill a total of 37 positions, 28 of which are labeled "featured." By comparison, lead Grand Theft Auto studio Rockstar North is only has 20 open positions currently.

As you might expect, the job listings at Rockstar San Diego are very general and do not include any specific details regarding what the project might be. In addition, RocFor more on the original Red Dead Redemption, check out GameSpot's review.

Samsung Reveals Mobile Virtual Reality Headset - Gear VR

Click any of the images below to view in gallery mode.

Samsung officially joined the virtual reality hardware race on Wednesday by formally revealing the Gear VR.

Gear VR stands out for its use of the recently released Galaxy Note 4. The enlarged smartphone slots into the helmet's micro-USB dock and acts as the screen.

Paired with the helmet's adjustable lenses, which are built into the headset, the Galaxy Note 4's accelerometer and gyrometer are used to track head movement.

That creates a unique wireless headset that doesn't need to be tied to a PC, though it also means the Gear VR cannot yet measure depth.

According to a preview by Engadget, the lack of depth is a particular negative aspect, as is the Note's relatively low processing and graphical capabilities.

The software for Gear VR was created by Oculus VR, the pioneering team that sparked the rebirth of virtual reality with its Oculus Rift headset.

Samsung says the Gear VR will launch across North America this year. Exact release times, and international plans, have yet to be revealed.

GTA 5 for PC Has Not Been Delayed or Canceled

The PC version of Grand Theft Auto V has not been delayed or canceled, developer Rockstar Games has confirmed. After recent reports suggested that this might be the case, a post from a Rockstar Games support staffer confirms that the game's fall 2014 release date for PC in unchanged.

"I'm also looking forward to the PC release," the representative said in a reply to a fan who asked if the PC version of GTA V had been delayed. "However, this release date has not changed."

Officially, GTA V is set to launch this fall for PC, as well as Xbox One and PlayStation 4. The game's actual release date for those platforms could be November 14, according to a recent--and unofficial--listing at United Kingdom retailer Gem.

GTA V launched in September 2013, generating over $1 billion in revenue in just 72 hours. The game has since shipped 34 million copies on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 alone. The new versions will offer better visuals, more densely populated worlds, and increased draw distances, among other improvements.

Dead Or Alive 5 Last Round Will Render at 1080p60 on Xbox One and PS4

Publisher Tecmo Koei has assured that its next-gen remaster of Dead or Alive 5 will render at 1080p and run at 60 frames-per-second on both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The expanded game, officially called Dead or Alive 5 Last Round, is also in development for Xbox 360 and PS3 (and will render at different frame rate and resolution on last-gen versions). The budget-priced title (starting at $30) is based on the 2012 release Dead or Alive 5, and is packaged with numerous tweaks and new content such as a wider variety of characters.

Along with demonstrating various graphical enhancements, both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions will render at the same frame-rate and resolution, according to a representative speaking to Videogamer.com.

Developer Team Ninja announced the new project on Saturday, and has since said the Dead or Alive 5 Last Round release date will fall on "Spring 2015".

It will be available for $40 on PS4 and Xbox One (physical and digital) and $30 on PS3 and Xbox 360 (digital only). UK prices have yet to be announced.

"Dead or Alive Last Round marks an exciting step forward for the franchise, and one that fans have been asking for," said Yosuke Hayashi of Team Ninja.

"Bringing the game to a new generation of consoles is allowing us to create the most graphically striking version of any Dead or Alive game ever, and we are very happy to give our fans the chance to experience our signature high energy fighting entertainment as only the latest consoles can deliver it."

Last Round's character roster is said to be the biggest of any Dead or Alive game. Fighters will include: Hayabusa, Hayate, Kasumi, Ayane, Rig, Momiji, Leon, Kokoro, Tina, Lisa, Brad Wong, Jann Lee, Hitomi, Leifang, Christie, Eliot, Leon, Gen Fu, Bayman, Bass, Zack, Helena, Marie Rose, Phase 4, and newly released Nyotengu along with Akira, Pai, Jacky and Sarah Bryant from the Virtua Fighter series.

Tim Schafer Says He'd Love to Remaster More LucasArts Adventure Games if Grim Fandango Sells

Double Fine's Tim Schafer said that he would love to remaster more LucasArts adventure games he worked on, though Grim Fandango Remastered will have to sell well in order for that to happen.

The news comes from the Grim Fandango: Bringing the Dead Back to Life PAX 2014 panel, where Schafer and other developers who worked on the original game talked about how they're handling various aspects of the remastered edition.

"We would love to make more of them," Schafer said in response to a fan in the audience who asked if they considered remaking or re-releasing other LucasArts adventure games. "If everyone buys 10 copies it will make it more likely that we'll make another," Schafer joked.

As to why they decided to tackle Grim Fandango first, Schafer said it was a combination of the team's passion for the game, the fact that it became hard to get only a few years after it was originally released, and the negotiations between Sony, Double Fine, and Disney, which acquired LucasArts last year.

Schafer and the panel also discussed the current state of Grim Fandango Remastered. The plan is to dig up the original assets, polish them, and use as much of them is possible in the remastered version. One exception is the game's music, which will be performed and recorded with the Melbourne orchestra just for the new version of the game. The Melbourne orchestra also worked with Double Fine on Broken Age.

At the moment, the team is still digging through the archives to see what they have, but has already begun improving textures, cutscenes, and other assets, as well as implementing new mouse and DualShock controls. A short video about the production of the game that played before the panel started also briefly showed it running on the tablet, though the game hasn't been officially announced for iOS or Android devices.

Double Fine announced that Grim Fandango will be released for PC, Mac, and Linux in addition to PS4 and Vita. A release date for the remastered version of the game has not yet been announced, but Double Fine says it will be a simultaneous launch across all platforms.
